Clonex and California Coastal Live Oak

I purchased some red and blue clonex. I don't know much about it but it was recommended by a friend. I have several California Coast Live Oak hard wood cuttings and a few barely rooted oaks collected from a neighbor's plant (with permission). Any thoughts about the best method for getting these cuttings and plants to grow? Water only rooting, sterilized potting mix, clonex red or blue and then sterilized potting mix, perlite only, vermiculite only, sand only? You can see that I have receive a lot of advice and I am trying to sort through it. Thanks.

Considering how easily these grow from seed, it is difficult to consider a reason for vegetative propagation. Al

Thanks for the advice calistoga. Have you used Clonex (blue or red) or other rooting hormones, and do you think they are effective?

I have never used Clonex. I do use Hormex and Dip & Grow. The former for soft wood and the later for hard wood cuttings. I never use a hormone on roots but have sometimes used a Mycorrhizae powder inoculation when I thought the roots needed help to establish. Al
