Might this work?

Lately, I've been stuffing plant cuttings directly into soil in a lazy attempt to propigate. It worked on my first try with a houseplant. Since then, I've tried it on several garden plants. I'm sure someday, I will want to do things the right way, but for now, this has been a fun little experiment.

My question is:

If a few weeks to a month later the cutting (stuffed in potting soil) is still green and perky, does that mean it is on its way to becoming a new plant? So far I've done this with jasmine, aromatic sumac, and catmint. Nothing has new growth, but all look happy 5 weeks later.
