Inosculation - similar to grafting.

I stumbled quite by accident upon Inosculation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. "Inosculation is a natural phenomenon in which trunks, branches or roots of two trees grow together. It is biologically very similar to grafting." I think people may use this for braiding trees like ficus.

Sporadically we see questions where this might be related. This is just an FYI link.

it more or less IS grafting inasmuch as the cambium layers are ultimately conjoined - in fact, I had always known it as 'approach grafting' although I have done it on a bench, I am really keen to have a go in situ.
