vegatitive propagation of these plants is slow..... the "scales" will not produce new plants. seed is by far the most effective method of propagation. I often find it necessary to hand polinate the flowers to get seed...

You can scale orientals, I do. Go to the lily forum where ya will find some information on this. Or do a google for' scaling oriental lilies'.

I thought if the lily is a hybrid then the seeds will be sterile. So the only way to get more plants is from the scales. You can get info from the Lily sites how to do it. I am new at this but I have read a lot about lilium in the past month. The more I read, the more confused I get. There are also lilium that will get bulbils at the base of the leaves. I don't know which kind of lilium though.

Several lilies will produce 'bulbils'at the leaf axils. Out of ten plants maybe only one or two will do this. If you wait for the lily to start dying back these bulbils will be ripe and ready to plant. Sometimes they will also produce these at the base of the plant just above the soil line.
