propagating bamboo

has anyone propagated any form of bamboo (forget 'lucky bamboo') using hydroponics?

i have propagated a lot of bamboo with culm cuttings and divisions of the plants. but i would really like to try it with hydroponics. on the other hand, if someone has tried it seriously and failed i do not want to waste time. and i know people are using tissue culture but those plants have no rhizomes until they have been grown in soil for quite a long time - much faster to just do it with culm cuttings.
