Hi, I am new to this but am trying to educate myself in the practice of Grafting (mainly from rootstock on maples). I was wondering if it is really necessary to use wax on the graft before wrapping with tape? Also as far as a cutting utensil will any sharp knife work? And can Japanese maple scions be attached to say a trident maple root stock? (I think I used the right terminology)

Is there a difference between Grafting tape and nursery tape or are they just different terms for the same thing? If anyone could tell me about grafting strips as well it would be great as well.
