Rooting a runner that has already been cut

I am receiving a set of strawberry runners from the germplasm in Oregon. They are not rooted...just simply the runners. How do I successfully root these runners that are no longer attached to the mother plant? I received some runners the same way a while ago and did not succeed in rooting them...much to my dismay. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

this is the way i would do it, although others may have differing opinions. after you recieve the plantlets, give them a good soaking over night. the next day, dip the bottoms into a little rooting hormone dust. it'll help if the bottoms are damp but not soaking so if you can set them on newspaper a few hours before. then pot them in a good light potting mix like miraclegro, but add some perlite to the mix to make it even lighter. water well and place in bright but indirect light. they should start putting out roots within a week. you should be able to put them in their permanent home in a few weeks.
