Propagation of what I assume to be a Dumb Cane.

I have recently acquired what I believe to be a dumb cane plant due to a death in the family, at the time I was told it was a variety of Ivy, I am not so sure now after looking at pictures.

I received the plant Tuesday night as a cutting and it has been in a cup of water. It is now Thursday afternoon and the plant doesn't look well it is limb and sick looking. I need to rush the process. What is the best way to quickly root this plant? I fear loosing it.

You will find more ghits by looking for dieffenbachia although diffenbachia does give quite a few. Go to Google, click on images, enter dieffenbachia.

If you plant looks like the pictures cut off some stem with some joints and lay it horizontal on some moist medium and press it down, cover lightly to prevent excessive drying of the medium. It will quite probably root in water as you are doing it but starting on some potting medium will perhaps be more reliable.
