Frost bit Candy Corn Vine - can I propegate/save it?

I bought a Candy Corn Vine at the beginning of the summer; now reaches over 6 feet tall and several shoots. I'd like to save some cuttings since it quickly sold out in local nurseries and in high demand here. We had a hard frost Wednesday night and killed off several shoots, but left inner vines okay. I've tried several times in the past to regrow cuttings with root hormone and have never had any luck. Has anybody grown new ones in water?? If I just leave the vine alone, will it grow back in the spring here in Winston-Salem, NC? I'm finding through researching the internet that it's considered both annual and perennial. Anybody know for sure?
