Kniphofia habitat question

Posted by livingdedgrrl (My Page) on

Hello, everyone! I have recently moved from Ohio to Tempe, AZ. I have an large bed of Kniphofia that I would like to bring with me. I understand it is from S. Africa, and I was wondering if this plant would do well in the environment here.

Thanks in advance!

***I believe I am in Zone 9 but I'm not quiet certain since I am new here.

RE: Kniphofia habitat question

Hey Jessica,

I'd say yes, but, for an experienced opinion, why don't you ask in the Gardening in Arizona Forum (linked below). They would be much more familiar with conditions in your area. Also, you might get more interest, since this forum is about propagation.

As for your hardiness zone, you are correct; the Arbor Day hardiness zone map (generally more up-to-date than the USDA map) puts Tempe in zone 9. Tempe's "official" hardiness zone (from the out-of-date USDA system) is 8b.

Thank you! I will move my question to the proper forum.
