I'd say yes, but, for an experienced opinion, why don't you ask in the Gardening in Arizona Forum (linked below). They would be much more familiar with conditions in your area. Also, you might get more interest, since this forum is about propagation.

As for your hardiness zone, you are correct; the Arbor Day hardiness zone map (generally more up-to-date than the USDA map) puts Tempe in zone 9. Tempe's "official" hardiness zone (from the out-of-date USDA system) is 8b.
