Humongous Cutting?......

Question for you guys....I asked this same thing to an expert on plants on a 'Net website, and he wasn't really sure how to answer.

At my home in Mexico, a friend came over with a branch about 5' tall, that had gotten broke off a plumeria tree at his house. Carlos dug a hole and planted it in my yard; no chemicals, fertilizers, etc; just stick it in the hole. I questioned him about the chances of survival of the plumee, and he didn't seem to have any doubts at all. Well, after a month, I began to see signs of life, and now, a year later, the darn thing has about doubled in size, and is doing great.

OK...What do you guys consider the limit as to how big a cutting can be planted? And, say you planted something like a large piece of a grape vine, would you have a new plant, or would it be like the donor plant of maybe 5 years old, and produce like it's mom?
