House Sparrow ATE may gladiolus bulb-sprouts ?!!??!

So, I live in hot western part of India and i have planted 15 gladiolus bulbs in large pots since its winter
(the temperatures that people consider as "spring temperatures" are here in winter.in winter it's around 10 to 25 Celsius and never below 10 degrees )
i planted them properly before week and a half and 3-4 sprouts have started emerging out of soil...
but when i checked out today, one sprout has been eaten...
i have no pests that can literally "eat" plant... but i have a HUGE number of Common House Sparrows living around here...there is at least 150-200 of them...they are always chirping around my home...but have never been problem....so, i have seen some of them wandering around my pots sometimes....and i have also lost my "amaranthus tricolor" sapling mysteriously before some time...it was literally "eaten"... and there were no pests....
so, are these birds eating my plants ?
