pachysandra & ivy cuttings: root for Spring if buried in soil now

I feel silly asking, as I think I did this successfully before.. but am not sure.. :) I'd like to root pachysandra and ivy cuts taken from my yard now (yes, we're hitting freezing), put them under soil in some areas that could use 'new growth' in the spring... Will they root then if I do this?

If not, can I root them putting them in my basement(using my usual mix and hormone) over the winter?

Never enough time to do all I want to.. in the supposedly right or best season!

Thank you for any/all of your advice; I really appreciate it!
