Ok - so I am in a whole new climate.. my MIL in OKC told me to head out and trim small branches off ther Crepe Myrtle, Forsythia, Rose of Sharon, and two older roses and said that all I needed to do over the winter (zone 7a) was place them in a pot and sit them out to get the rain, snow and ice..... in the spring she said they will come up and buy fall be ready for their homes... does that sound right- it just feels so easy after all the care i had to give summer cuttings in Texas...

I know in my zone, you can push a forsythia twig into the ground and it will usually root in place. Crape myrtle and rose of sharon are similar in their ease of rooting. You can also shove fig branches into the ground. Last year I did butterfly bushes and got two new ones with the prunings from another shrub. What have you got to lose? It's an old method that works well on deciduous shrubs.
