family farm series

egyptianonion

My great grandparents purchased the farm in 1870. Don't know when the house was built, but this picture was taken probably late 1910s by my grandmother. The porch faces south. Notice near pine tree (as well as one of the other ones) that is extant today.

The pines show up in pictures of brick veneer bungalow that my grandparents built in 1922. The new house is shown after a snow storm in January 1929. I was not aware that there had been a second row of bridal wreath below the other until after I was 40 years old and saw this picture. By the time I was born, the bottom row had been taken out. Perhaps had I known about it I would have considered putting it back when I took over the farm myself in 1991 at age 40, but I built what I pretentiously call the rainbow garden there instead (with the excuse that it relieves us of mowing the slope).

I hope these show up in sequential order--I've never posted pictures before. Please excuse if I mess up the first time.
