Got Gardening or Horticulture Questions?

The link below takes you to the Denver Cooperative Extension Service (sponsored by CSU). I've looked this site over pretty thoroughly, and it's a well-put-together site that answers an awful lot of questions that the typical gardener might encounter. I hope that it's helpful to at least some of you.

Do any of your respective state extension services host such a site? If so, how about posting a link?

RE: Got Gardening or Horticulture Questions?

Hello, Larry!

The address below is a list of links to all state coop extensions:

I seldom use my state's site, unfortunately. MA has a good site with lots of information. But my favorites over the years have become Ohio, Virginia, and Missouri. I use the Kemper(MO) site a lot for plant information and photos.

They all have something to offer. I am not familiar with any of the Western or Southern states' Cooperative Extension offerings, although I have ocasionally looked something up on the excellent FL, TX, and GA sites. This points out the regionalism that spectree refers to in his recent post; we'll need posters from all parts of the country to come in on this one . . .

Below is the Kemper site out of MSU:

Very regional but a good site all the same. The Southeast Exotic Plant Pest Council has pictured links to invasive exotic plants of the east & southeast. A force to be reckoned with... some exotics are not behaving and are changing the very landscape in which we live.

Off my soap box.... sorry.

I hope this is of some help though. ID can be be very difficult sometimes and these sites ease the pain and are a good place to start. For us on the eastern side of the river. *smile*

Here's the link to Jerry Parson's / Texas A&M site ... and good resource for Texas gardeners.

The University of CT maintains a website. Not as much info as the CO site on gardening questions, but a searchable plant database and some online info. Of course, anyone can call and ask questions of the folks at the extension offices. I'm currently enrolled in the Master Gardener program, and will be anwering questions there this summer as part of my volunteer service.

How did I forget UConn?? One of the very best. Excellent detailed information and photos of woodies in all seasons, different stages of growth, bark, twigs, leaves, blooms, bud - outstanding. Sorry, Jo!

RE: Got Gardening or Horticulture Questions?

I recently read that the best way to kill off unwanted growth of any kind would be to water the unwanted foilage with one cup boiling water to one cup vinegar. If I were to use this H20/vinegar solution to kill off the new growth of hedge, how long would it be before I could safely plant in this area again? Any insight would be most appreciated.
