Replica of 1910 house, now needs garden

stonehill

I have just completed building my brand new home which is a replica of a 1910 colonial revival (both inside and out). My yard as you can imagine is bare with only light grass showing. There is a 100 year old stone wall built into the side of a hill on the property (We named the home "StoneHill"). Since the yard (including the house) is about a third of an acre, in a small city I am limited on space. I could use some suggestions for readings on small formal gardens or plantings from the 1910's. By the way, before the lot was cleared, I managed to save a few of the original plantings that date back from the 1920's. I'm hoping this forum will be as successful for me and the one I used to build my house.
