My husband and I just pulled out about 8 bushes that were surrounding our front porch on all sides. I was planning to put flowers in the beds that the bushes occupied but the entire ground is covered in english ivy. I hand pulled what I could see out and thought i was doing good until I dug a hole about 2 feet deep to get a stubborn root and saw the intricate root system the ivy had left behind deep underground. I'm afraid that if i put any flowers in there the ivy will just choke them out and be back next year (if not later this year). Is there any way to get rid of it all quickly or am I really kidding myself thinking I'll have flowers by May? I've never done this before...please help :)
