Here is a pic looking along the back. The neighbor put in lattice last year. The one section of fencing facing back in towards the yard is a spare temporarily here to keep it straight for a gate latter.

Bamboo? I haven't got a clue re whether it grows in your zone, but it is tall, and it's not all that wide. I think your arrangement would control running bamboo, but, if not, something like Fargesia (clumping) might work.

Again, no clue about your zone, but what about clematis on a tall-ish trellis? Grapes? Wisteria?

Thanks purpleinopp! I should find pictures of what we started with. We dug up all that to level the back part then put in the bluestone and brick sitting wall (all craigslist finds). Eventually I'd like to cap the higher parts of the sitting wall bluestone as well. Sorry for the delayed response.
