Old Wood Brick Pavers - 4inch x 9inch size

Back in the '70s in KC, I had excavated an old sidewalk made of wood bricks at an old house. They were about 4"x9" x3" thick...similar dimensions that old clay street brick pavers have. An old-timer told me that they used to make pavers out of cypress when it was an abundant and cheap wood. They were a super-dark brown color.

Time travel 30 years and I am remembering those wood bricks fondly. I am even wishing I could build a patio with them.

Someone tell me, Was the old-timer correct? Were those wood bricks really probably made of cypress? Was this a common practice? I sorta thought they could have been any ol' wood, that was impregnated with creosote (like a RxR tie). Does anyone know anything about these type pavers?

The last question is: Does anyone know where to buy them today? Either new or re-claimed?

Once again Google to the rescue. Try entering, wood cypress paving blocks, for lots of interesting reading. I spent quite a few minutes studying the historical and informative threads posted there.
