I was just at the Gamble House in Pasadena which had a number of beautiful books are gardening in their bookstore. One book I remember was pertaining to bungalow gardens.

I have Arts and Crafts Foursquare also, built in 1911. Great house. I love the details and general design. I am going for a less formal look by using natives but will keep the front walk formal with some symmetry.

Check out: "Outside the Bungalow: America's Arts and Crafts Gardens by Paul Duchscherer and Douglas Keister. Great book. They have written other books about Arts and Crafts Gardens and Arts and Crafts Houses.Even though foursquares are not bungalows you can learn alot from Paul Duchscherer and Douglas Keisters' books.

Another excellent book is In Harmony with Nature, Lessons from the Arts and Crafts Garden by Rick Darke. It has lush photography and interesting reading covering the birth of the Arts and Crafts movement in England and chapters on important Arts and Crafts gardens in England and the States and their designers.
I live in a 1926 rural schoolhouse that lends itself very nicely to the Arts and Crafts or Craftsman style of design. I have opened it back up to the original architecture and am slowly restoring the floors, windows and interior trim. I am a professional horticulturist and am creating an Arts and Craft garden on the acre of land that came with the school.
