He Promised Me A Rose Garden

Roses are ordered. Where to put them is the issue. The builder in his infinite wisdom, put horrible things in the landscape around the lawn. I have waay too much Heavenly Bamboo, and huge spreading ornamental grasses that you can't pull out.

The issue. I need to get rid of these plantings to make room for my roses (and a dwarf citrus or two). DH has a bad back and I have arthritis. Digging is out of the question. Can we saw them to the ground, cover them with black landscape cloth, and smother them? Will they die? Will they get easier to pull out / dig out?

I even read on the web that you can soak them in kerosene and light them up. Tempting, but not a good idea here in the Southern California Desert with our winds........

Any and all suggestions will be appreciated! I am posting this on the Roses Forum also.

Thank you!

My vote is hire someone to remove them. No, cutting them back and covering will not kill them. I would cut them down, then hire someone to dig the roots out. That would be the easiest, and cheapest route. good luck! Your rose garden will look wonderful!
