This is a case where the contractor was blatantly incompetant to perform the work. Another lesson to be learned here is not to part with your cash before the inspector has looked at the job. A couple of the responses come from professional deck contractors themselves - John Hyatt & Deckman (Al). It's truly a classical case of buyer beware...and to think of the potential for loss of life if the porch were elevated.
