Not sure you'd be willing to wait, but I have various buddleia shrubs, roses, and a little lime hygrangea. You are welcome to make cuttings if they survive the winter. In Niwot.

I think the butterfly bush has to be started in spring after they bud out. What type of roses do you have? Hydrangeas would work well.

I've successfully rooted buddleia from non-budding cuttings. If I don't disremember, I took cuttings in Feb or March, but not later than that. I dunno why getting some now wouldn'w work. 1/2 inch dia stem worked the best, a node on top for the leaves to start, bury a node for the roots.

Once upon a time, I propagated dozens of the things to fill in the border when the trees were still small. Now the trees are so big they shade the things out - this is not a shade plant.....

The roses are from David Austin. Can't remember but one off hand...a Wm Shakespeare. The hydrangea is "little lime" which I planted last summer. Didn't grow much so looking forward to spring to see if it buds out.

all my roses i started have turned black. I started some indoors and some in the garage wrapped in moist papertowel. argh

I have about 8 inches of 4 bushes buried in compost, sheep manure, and leaves. The one really scraggly one I didn't bother to cover has green stems at the bottom. So I'm hoping when I uncover them later in the spring they will be ok

Oh great. Like i said mine all died. Your method and airlayering is the best, getting established with roots prior to taking from the parent plant.
