I tried planting a hedge of Amur River privet 7 or 8 years ago, it just never really did well. I think 'Cheyenne' is a much better cultivar for this area. I've put in 5 so far and the tallest is about 4 ft. tall now after 4 years. They are supposed to get to 5 ft. I'm not planning on shearing mine, I like the little white flowers and berries. You're going for a sheared hedge, the formal look? I think these would take to that fine.

Thanks! Yes, I was hoping for a low hedge, around 3'. I'm going to need a ton of them, so I wanted to ask some people before I spend that kind of money!

I checked and they get taller than 5 feet, more in the 6-8 ft range, but take well to shearing. If you want to research, the botanical name is Ligustrum vulgare 'Cheyenne'. If you have a lot to put in, I recommend you start with small plants if possible. Cheaper, less transplant shock and better survival rates. Check the link below to CSU's hedge list. Also see if someone else chimes in. I'd hate to have you find out there's a cultivar more in the size range you want....5 minutes after you order them! Have fun and good luck!
