| I'm going to try some annuals specifically for cutting this year, annual asters, zinnias, annual sweet peas, etc. I've tried before indoors under lights with no success so I want to try outside this year. When is it safe to winter/spring sow in the Front Range for the tender annuals? Has anyone out there had any success? Also, I bought one of the portable greenhouses from Big Lots this year to put on the uncovered side of my deck. Can I start these annuals earlier if I put them in a typical wintersow container then in the greenhouse or am I guaranteeing their failure in the hot CO sun? Any advice? |

| About the only annual flower seeds I've started outside have been snapdragons and sweet william which I usually scatter around the end of May or first of April. All other annuals like asters and zinnas I start inside. I've had very good luck going that route. I have such weed problems in my beds that I just find it easier to dig up everything well and plant rather than to try thinning the weeds out from the seedlings. I'm not sure about your idea of the wintersow containers, but I've been thinking about trying that myself. Maybe someone else will be able to share some of their experiences. |
