first harvest of the year!

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the group, and I am so excited - I just have to share. I have two raised veggie beds (using the square foot gardening system), and since the weather is so lovely today, I added some compost and turned the soil in the beds. I got a surprise, though - my first harvest of the year was waiting for me! Apparently some seeds that didn't germinate last year have been working hard all winter, and I pulled a full basket of parsnips as well as white, red and orange carrots. There are also a ton of scallions, but I left them to grow a smidge bigger. I can't believe there was so much there! I have had some surprise swiss chard before (the Bright Lights), but this was amazing to me.

I thought I'd put out the cold weather seeds today or tomorrow, even with the cold snap coming this weekend. Am I crazy, or is anyone braving the weather?

Angel
