Transplanting a tree

We planted a tree 1.5 years ago that was originally in a 5 gallon pot. Unfortunately this winter the power company moved our power lines to directly over where our little tree was planted. Today, we tried transplanting it, and unfortunately had to cut a lot of roots to get it moved. it is still dormant, so I'm hoping it will be okay. Anyone have any advice as to how to nurse the little tree so that it survives? I'll be really sad to lose it, as it's a pretty little royal cardinal mountain ash. Do you think it will live?

Impossible to tell with info provided whether it will live. There is nothing to do to 'nurse' it except give it appropriate water. Patience.

It's always a bit nerve wracking cutting through tree roots. I've been on some landscaping jobs where it was necessary to cut through a lot of tree roots and they've all survived.. It'll probably be okay but like Dan said "Patience".

Dan, might it not be best to trim the top growth back a bit?
