I had some show up too early and then they did take a break. The first harvest was just this week. They will stall out now from the cold wind.

The bed that has mulch is still not showing anything, so this week I will remove the cover to let things warm up.

I know in past years, they seem to do best if I give them a long deep drink just before expected shoots. In my yard I start looking for them around the first of April or when there are dandelions blooming.

I didn't mulch them. Also, they did seem drier than the clay soil. I amended with sand and peat moss and it seemed more dry to me. I did give them a good soak yesterday. I just don't want to loose them.

We planted asparagus last year too, but a different variety, Jersey Knight. I really thought we would have lost them, because we didn't put enough dirt over the roots. But, ours have been coming up for two weeks, although not so much that we could harvest this year. Just one or two shoots per plant, and a few plants do seem to have not made it. Maybe your variety just comes later.... fingers crossed for you.

lucky those look beautiful. I just planted mine last year, they are smaller than straws. LOL
