I am in Wheat Ridge, and we have a dwarf nectarine that does very well in our yard. The first summer we moved in our dog was eating them off the tree like candy (the only hazard I would say). Unfortunately we had to move it to a new location, and it didn't produce last year, but I'm hoping we'll get some blossoms this spring.
