I wouldn't trim foliage and not sure why that was recommended. During the 1st year it is recommended to trim the flowers and runners to let the mother plant build up reserves. I get to most of the flowers and runners but not all.

It was some random website.... They were saying to trim off the first few blossoms after transplanting to force the plant's energy to go to the root building. Sounded sort of weird to me, so that's why I posted here about it. I'll just let them be and only trim runners.

Ok, so I don't grow the "regular" strawberries with runners, so maybe I should pipe outta this one---but it's snowing outside, so I'm INSIDE watching it, with not much on TV, and with some other things I should be getting done--but don't feel like it, so here I am!

I've never heard of cutting anything off of strawberries--leaves, flowers, or runners! Have no idea if it helps anything or not! But something that hasn't been mentioned is that strawberries naturally "decline" after a few years, so to keep the best production possible you need to replace the plants every few years. I'm linking an old thread below where somebody "said a bunch of stuff" about strawberries/problems, without actually asking a specific question, so I "said a bunch of stuff" back, hoping I had answered the question that hadn't been asked! Yeah! I'm sure that makes sense!!!

Included in some of that "bunch of stuff" was info about how strawberries decline and need to be replaced! If you're planning to grow them "for years," I thought you might be interested in this--but I'm not so bored that I'm gonna retype it all here! :-)
