Bat introduction involves the artificial establishment of a population of bats in areas where they have been extirpated. Bat introduction should be considered where certain prey species such as fungus gnats are abundant enough to support a predetermined bat population.

The introduction of bats increases biodiversity within the home. There is an increase in the new-growth of peppers and other plants because of the reduction in gnat numbers. The peppers are able to recover because not only is the gnat population reduced because of predation due to bats, but bat guano is also produced and distributed. This process is known as top predators regulating the lower sections of the trophic pyramid.

My son has been dying for a batbox ever since we watched a gardening show that points out how beneficial they are.
    Um. Yeah.

We unknowingly had them living in a cavity in an ancient window in my daughters bedroom. She said she heard scratching sounds at night. Shortly after, we had the windows replaced and when the contractor pulled the old window, out came a momma and her baby! Completely freaked the poor guy out! Me, too, actually! Momma flew around the window for several evenings, then had to find a new home. I do see them here at night and am glad for the help with the mosquitos. They are cool, just not in the house!

We occasionally see bats flying around our yard at dusk in the warmer months, especially when there are a large amount of flying insects present. They are cool to watch! But I agree Barb - just not INSIDE!!! That would be very freaky!
