Yep! Dig 'em up and break them into halves--or quarters, or whatever size pieces you want and replant them wherever you want them. Water them in thoroughly and deeply after replanting. And not only CAN you trim the tops, I definitely recommend that you DO cut them down, I'd cut them down to 2" or less--the less foliage there is, the easier it will be for the roots to start establishing themselves in their new home. They won't be using much water with so little foliage, so after the initial soaking, be sure you don't keep them too wet until you start to see active new growth. You won't get much this year, but by next summer you should have some pretty nice plants going for you again!

Question! Are you sure the Little Guy standing there guarding them will let you do it???

Well I did it. I divided my daylilies and then planted them in the front yard. I feel so accomplished. I hope they live and blooms some flowers this year.
