Berries & Melons

Hello All! You've all been great is answering my previous questions and giving me your opinions. Thanks!

This is a 2 part question. Nmero Uno.

Besides controlling how much water plants get, how does one influence the sweetness of raspberries, strawberries and melons? Is it simply a matter of super-phosphate at the right time?

Part 2. I don't have deer where I live, but I do have bunnies. The bunnies likes to eat the strawberries which makes me want to kill them. So, I'm going to plant my strawberries in my fenced garden. Since strawberries are fairly compact, I was thinking of planting them where my melon plants are going to vine on the ground and let the vines intertwine a bit. I get to use the space efficiently, and my melons wouldn't be resting on the ground entirely. Perhaps this would encourage more uniform color on the melons and protect them a bit.

I got started on this because I'm interplanting green beans, edamame, and fava beans in with my sweet corn this year.

Your thoughts and opinions are appreciated!
