Apparently, not all xeriscape is created equally. El Paso County wants you to get rid of Myrtle spurge and Cypress spurge plants because they've been labeled noxious weeds. On Saturday, May 15, from noon to 3:00 pm at Cottonwood Creek Park, you can exchange your spurges for free Colorado native plants at the "Purge Your Spurge" event. According to the county, the plants escape from gardens and invade sensitive ecosystems, out-competing native vegetation and reducing wildlife forage. They've actually made the Colorado Noxious Weed List, which requires them to be eradicated. The plants contain a milky sap that can cause severe skin irritations, so be especially careful with bare skin or eyes. These plants are toxic to animals, so horses and cattle should not be pastured where spurges grow. |

| Thanks for the info. I checked around my house as there are some plants that I'm not sure what they are and looked slightly similar. I'm pretty sure they are not though. Unfortunately getting rid of noxious weeds is an uphill battle but this info is a start. |
