An apple tree question

I have an apple tree that was planted in my yard a few years ago. A couple years frost got to the blossoms. One spring it started out with about 25 apples but the squirrels pulled them all done. Since then I've figured out that Borage planted around the apple tree keeps the lovely little rodents away. This year it looks like it's going to have many apples.

The problem seems to be that the branches are somewhat weak. Last month when frost threatened the blossoms I strung 3 sets of Christmas light on it and even that relatively light load has made the branches sag. The lights are still on there.

It seems for sure that the branches are going to be overburdened by summertime.

Should I cull some of the fruit or just let it bear the load and hope the branches get stronger?
