Should I put mulch around my strawberry plants?

I would like to keep weeds down. I would be tough for me to try to cut garden fabric to go around the plants. Is there any particular kind of mulch than better than any other?

Straw is the classic mulch for strawberries.

Grass clippings work well - just something to keep them off the dirt.

Straw worked great for me. However, I wouldn't use it starting new lawns... Had straw down the block for weeks, and also unhappy neighbors.
