The very 1st peonies opened in my yard this weekend. The 1st iris were torn to shreds by a pounding hailstorm but have come back well.

These were here when we bought this home 15 years ago. I can remember when they bloomed the 1st year. The color seems so "different" to me . . . I can't even think how to describe it.

What should we call this - butterscotch? pumpkin? Ever notice how the word "brown" is never used to describe a flower color? Well, at least it isn't brown . . .

We bought some "mixed colors" from a farmers' market vendor once. They all turned out to be that most common iris violet color! Or, is that violet iris? lavender violet? iris? . . .

And, there are quite a few whites altho' those are a little earlier and fast receding. White is white is white. Now, if I could catch a bumble bee on it . . .

The 1st peonies are all that simple pink single. The doubles are a little later.
