RE: From Birch to Linden Tree

My HOA (per the city) required that Greenspire Linden be planted along a certain street.

There must be 25 planted and only one is thriving. Of these 25, over half have been replanted at least once, since the first ones died; and the variety was the only one allowed (HOA has since wised up and selected a different tree).

The one that is thriving looks BEAUTIFUL and lives with people that tend to it. I'm not sure what they do to make theirs look good, but their yard is well watered.

Linden definitely doesn't do well with neglect in Z5, hot sun.

The landscape architect I used for my yard said that Lindens are the most gorgeous tree after 25 years of establishment.

25 years??

I planted three maples, totally disregarding the HOA rules...Good thing they failed to enforce rules back then and now I'm Grandfathered in...No way do I have the patience for a tree that takes forever to make me smile...

Linden gets leaf scorch in summer as it is too dry here for it to get all the water it wants. As long as you can give it enough water, the leaf scorch won't spread to all the leaves and it will do OK. I like the smell in late May when in bloom.
