Rocky Mountain Gardening

Need advice on perennials

My sister lives near Boulder and would like to fill backyard pots in sunny and mostly sunny locations using perennials--she is tired of spending time and money on annuals every year. I'd like to give her some suggestions --but since I am in the Pacific NW I could us some input from locals. (Pots mostly in the 10 inch range)

Anyone willing to share your most glorious container ideas?

I'd steer her towards the Container Gardening forum here on garden web, they seem to be a great set of folks, very helpful on every possible angle of containers and perennials.
