Raised beds need more water. It is better to do a long soaking. As to the frequency, you don't want the soil to dry out completely but you don't want it constantly wet either, and that drying out is dependent on the weather. But when we had that setup going, I delivered about an inch a week, and the little timer was on every third day. Worked fairly well with some manual monitoring.

Thank you Dan! I was starting to think watering every day was doing more harm than good. One more question, though. How do you know how much water your soaker hoses deliver? Is that something that depends on water pressure, or on the individual soaker hose?

I stopped using them, Rosie, but the ones I had came with a little card that gave me the output in GPH. You can calculate inches from gallons & square feet with calculators on The Interwebs.

Using a moisture meter takes a lot of the guess work away. They can be purchased for around $10.
