NASTY grey water tank

Hi, I've got a question......

I've got a grey water tank here that has sat unused for a long time, it is nasty black stinky water. I finally got all the tall grass/weeds cut back around it and the snakes have moved on, or at least are out of site now! I got the sump pump working somewhat (it will not go on by itself, I have to do it by plugging and unplugging the power) I have emptied the tank a couple times as far as my pump would drain it but it is still nasty water. I know it will take a while to get it cleaned out.

My question, can I use this water on flowers? or will it kill them?

I'm sure the best way to "clean" the tank would be to fill and empty it several times but I live on a cistern so to use water for something like that just isn't very cost effective and I am on a tight budget. Also, we are renting so I am not going to invest a lot of money into the house.

I posted this on another thread and was told to just redirect the water to the septic and fill in the tank......
I AM NOT getting under this house to do that, it is a very small hole to crawl through and with snakes and spiders......no way!

And the other answer I got was........NEVER let grey water set.......Well, I've long since figured out that one!

DBF doesn't want to "trouble" the landloard as we are not on a lease and rentals are hard to come by here (at least one we can afford that has some property and lots of privacy and we can have our dogs w/o paying extra) I do plan on asking him if he can get it dug out and a new one put in when I see him next, this one is 2 metal drums in the ground that are rusting away.

Sorry for all the babble.....any suggestions would be appreciated.

Vic

Vic, if you've emptied the tank a couple of times, then the concentration of what ever was in there stinking would be a small fraction of what it was before. Generally speaking, it doesn't take much of some volatile, sulfur based natural chemical to stink to high heaven - think rotten egg, skunks, and so on.

I'd go right ahead and use it on your flowers.

While doing so, you might wish to keep this little ditty in mind.....

Here is a link that might be useful: Olfactory tune

LOL, Thanks Dave

Of course now I can't get that tune out of my head, but I changed the words to "dead skunk in the middle of the ROW"
