I am royally %#^+ at myself! I was on a pruning binge this morning and managed to totally screw up. I "have" a Canadian cherry tree (I think - Prunus canadensis) that died the first year I put it in, but was sending up suckers. On the advice of a tree expert, I selected the strongest of them and secured it to the old dead trunk. It was growing nicely and I was optimistic. But there were still two thick suckers that needed to be cut back. You guessed it. I cut back the leader. Aggggh!!!

I may just give up having a purple tree there. My Flame maple next to it is growing rapidly and another tree that close by may be too much. But still!
