You can cut cat mint back as much as you want (I have mine) and it always comes back. I know this year with all the rain its growing like crazy and I am going to cut again.

I second that! I'd probably cut it ALL the way down---an inch or two above the ground! If you leave it taller, the new growth will come out of the top of the old stems and the bottom part will look ratty! Remember, where ever you put it, it's gonna SPREAD again! Sounds like you have something to bring to the Fall Swap!

Skybird, I knew you'd say to cut it WAY back :)

I already have lots potted up from the first two cutting extravaganzas!

I put it in places where it can get as big as it wants. Frankly, I don't mind. I just only have so much room in my little beds that I hadn't seen a couple of surrounding plants in quite some time. Hey, there was an iris under there sporting a couple of blooms. Who knew?

We created 2 from one last year! Cut them way back, to about 6" or so, then put them in 1 gallon pots, and bury the pots. They will be good then for about 4 years. This is the 2nd time we have done this, so we know it works!
