Hi Charlene! DH says No No No it is not too late to plant short season corn. He also said many times "back in Iowa" the corn was nowhere near that knee-high mark, but grew like crazy in August; so it all evens out. Best of luck! (I didn't even plant any cuz I wanted more room for tomatoes...)

Charlene, I bet I can count the times I've had corn, knee-high by the 4th of July without taking off my shoes. Besides cool starts, another reason is my tendency to plant dwarf varieties.

Fleet & SugarSnow, which have been making return showings in my garden in recent years, aren't likely to get much above shoulder height at harvest time!

Corn likes hot weather. With a 70 days to maturity variety, you should have ample time to harvest (if'n your 1st frost doesn't come before September).

I don't think you're too late. I planted the first half of mine a couple weeks ago, maybe the 29th? and it's not even 3" tall yet. I planted the 2nd half last week and it's not up yet.
