My garden pedestal is disentegrating......?

I know I shouldn't....but I fell in love with this plaster pedestal....got my hopes up and now it's disentegrating. I used a paint wash on it then two coats of shellac......but it's not liking the frost or the rain. It's days are numbered! Any suggestions on how to save it? I put a piece of granite tile on the top to slow down the pitting from the rain. (fyi: The basket has purple verbena in it)

I have no idea how to save it, but I can see why you fell for it. It's gorgeous.

I would either move it somewhere dry or elevate it somewhat since it's getting hit with water and that will disintegrate the base faster. Plaster and water don't mix, even with the shellac. A better choice would be concrete.

The plaster ones are for inside and the resin ones do better outside. I prefer metal, but that is so pricey!

It is very pretty and looks great with your stone work.

What about those little terracotta feet that go underneath heavy pots? They might help.

jcepine....took your advice and elevated it with a piece of ceramic tile. I guess I'll just enjoy the look while it's still in one piece.....Ya know....it was a freebie, a give away....so the next one I'll spend money on. Sigh..
