This time of year...hog millet/proso known as bird seed. Takes about 60 days.

I planted some foxtail millet just last week. It has been in my garden each year for the last 7 or 8. The sprays that you can buy for caged birds are likely to be foxtail millet.

I've never planted millet seed this late but forgot to get to it earlier and some space became available. The ColoKid give me hope but it will have to hurry.

Winter rye is a wonderful green manure crop to plant at this time of year. I don't know how suitable it is for chickens. You could plant winter wheat. My spring wheat will be ready to harvest soon. (My "field" of wheat is taller than it is wide. ;o)
