There I was, just coming back into the house, and I saw a great big snake slither into the vinca.

I looked it up , description said it was a garter snake. I thought garter snakes were small!

I'll post a link to what it looked like.

It slithered under the deck behind the vinca.

Haha, the dog paws in the picture are so cute! I love snakes. Welcome him to your garden, he keeps out bad things!

Thanks, mama, but he was awfully big though! (the snake, I mean.) Yes, and Percy has big feet, too!

B2alicia, garter snakes are supposed to big very beneficial for the yard. I saw one in my backyard that was at least 4 ft long. And snakes freak me out!!! Your snake ,probably, does not want to be bothered by you. You may not see it again for a while. Good luck. Olga

The snake probably wanted to make friends with your garden hose! Just kidding.
On Thursday I saw a rattlesnake that had tried to cross a very busy street near where I live.

Does anyone know how to get garter snakes out of fountains ? They are eating my goldfish . I am thinking when they eat all my fish they will leave because they will have to seek more food , I can spread snake repellent and replace the fish . I would like them to be doing their job in the garden , rather than making my fountain their personal summer playground . There are two of them , Sneaky Snake and Petey . TIA
