While I'm throwing water saving tips out there, here's another one....

Most of us have heard of polymers. Until recently, polymers were only available in a crystal chunk, they would absorb water and release when conditions were dry. The biggest issue with them was they had to be applied under your new sod or covered with dirt because they couldn't take direct sunlight.

Another company has a new type out. It's basically a grain of sand coated in a polymer. It can take direct sunlight and won't form a large gel clump like the crystal can.

Thanks for this great info, Bob - have you tried the field magic stuff as well? Maybe one or both of these would help my lawn, but doubt I'd want to use both. I'll read more on the links you sent and see which one I might go with, providing I can find where to purchase.

I tried te field magic as well but in combination with the EZ-Wet.

Bob, I'm confused by your last post and can't tell how well the EZ-Wet would have done by itself. When I read on the EZ-Wet, most of the info said it needed to be reapplied after 5-6 weeks. The 1st application for some reason was 3 months but after that it sounded longer.

Did you ever try the field magic separately? Was the EZ-wet used separately?

Is the savings of water enough to offset the cost and trouble of using this?

I used the field magic at the beginning of the season when I did my overseeing. Winter kill down here has been severe the last couple years so I overseeded and then top dressed with soil. Before any of that went down, that's when I used my speeder to disperse the FM.

Later in the season, I did a heavy application (3-5 pounds per 1000 sq. ft), on the trouble areas that looked water stressed, and a regular application (2-3 pounds per 1000 sq ft.) on the rest of the lawn.

Bob - did you overseed in the fall, or spring? I've thought spring was when you would do it, but seems like I've read articles that say you should do it in the fall - so I'm confused on that.

When you say you "Later in the season, I did a heavy application ...", was that more of the FM, or was that when you used the EZ?

I over seeded in the spring with a annual rye 3 Kentucky bluegrass mix.

I don't like overseeing in the fall because of inconsistent moisture. You can't let the seeds dry out.

I did the heavy application of EZWet.
