I've never tried it, but I keep thinking about it! I was looking at the kits in the catalogs, just not sure I want to spend the $$. Seems like I read a while back that you can use a mason jar with a cheesecloth top as well.

I have used both the canning jar and the round stackable version. Both work great. The stackable is good if you want to make loads or more than one kind. For some reason I never keep up with sprouts. This time of year I will do a couple of batches and then the novelty wares off and I just donÂt make more.

Seeds are much cheaper at the health foods store in bulk. I have never found one kind sprouts better than another and it is definitely a personal preference on what to grow for the taste factor.

Yep, Bonnnie, buying seed in quantity is definitely the way to go . . . (have I said that somewhere before?? ;o)

I have used the jar and cheese cloth method with good success - everything from alfalfa to mung beans (broccoli & radish sprouts are sooo good with cream cheese in a simple sandwich :o). A key is making sure you don't have a "puddle" left standing in your jar. It works to put the jar at an angle in the dish drainer. You can also buy a simple little plastic basket in a covered plastic bowl at the Asian markets.

I live so far from these so-called health food stores, I don't know what their prices are . . . But, Johnny's has seed in every size package imaginable. Some are especially for sprouts, Azura!
